Rangers sweat over Madjid Bougherra's fitness
Rangers have received the unfortunate news that Madjid Bougherra will definitely be out of the Scottish Premier League clash with Kilmarnock on Saturday 20 November.
The defender may also be out of the crucial UEFA Champions League clash with Manchester United.
The Algeria international picked up the problem with his hamstring in the 2-0 SPL victory over Aberdeen on Saturday 13 November.
Sasa Papac is a doubt for the match against Kilmarnock, but Steven Davis, Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith are all expected to feature after recovering from various knocks.
Manager Walter Smith is missing out on the services of forwards Nikica Jelavic and James Beattie, midfielder Maurice Edu and defender Andy Webster due to long-term injuries, but he is likely to have defender Kirk Broadfoot and attacker Kyle Lafferty available
for Saturday's game.
Smith told his club's official website, "We have a problem with Madjid Bougherra. So we have one or two problems that we have to overcome in that regard. We're a little bit better off than we were against Aberdeen last weekend. Kirk Broadfoot and Kyle Lafferty
look like they will be fit. Kirk is one of those boys who can play in any of the positions across the back four and that's a handy thing for any team to have.
"Indications are that they will be okay. We had quite a number of injuries last weekend against Aberdeen and we managed to handle that situation okay. So at Kilmarnock we face a tough game and we will have to go there with the right approach, but we will
have quite a few players missing."
Rangers are currently at the top of the SPL with a one-point lead over fierce rivals Celtic. However, they face a struggle to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, as they are two points behind second-placed Valencia in their group with
just two games remaining.
