Rangers youngster says kids are ready to step in for injury-hit stars

Rangers youngster Kyle Hutton says that all of the youth players at the Scottish Premier League champions are on high alert, as a spate of injuries to first-team stars mean that manager Walter Smith could call upon them at any time.

The injury list at Ibrox is growing, with Kirk Broadfoot, Sasa Papac and Kyle Lafferty all doubts for the SPL match against Kilmarnock on Saturday 20 November.

Maurice Edu is also out of that game, as well as the UEFA Champions League showdown with English Premier League giants Manchester United on 24 November.

As a result, several of the young reserves may get their chance to impress in the first team and Hutton, who made his debut in the 7-2 Scottish League Cup victory over Dunfermline earlier this term, is ready to make the most of any opportunity which is handed
to him by Smith.

He told the Daily Record that: "We've been told to keep ourselves ready and to stay focused with so many games coming up. It's a lot of pressure but I'm sure we can handle it. You don't wish injuries on your team-mates. When they are injured though you're hoping
you'll get a shout next.

"I was crossing my fingers for it but I wasn't expecting it against Dunfermline. The way it has came has been brilliant for me. I was just happy the way it all went (against Dunfermline) and hopefully I just get another chance."

After the clashes against Killie and Manchester United, Rangers will face a busy festive fixture list which means that they will have to make the most of their squad, whether players are injured or not.

Before Christmas, Rangers will also have to play Dundee United at Tannadice, Heart of Midlothian, Turkish league champions Bursaspor, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and St Mirren.
