Rangers youngster targets first-team starting place
Rangers youngster Gregg Wylde has targeted more appearances in the first-team starting line-up after featuring in the 2-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup win over Kilmarnock on Sunday, 27 October.
The 29-year-old winger capped his first start for the club with an assist for Steven Naismith for the second goal, after Andrew Little opened the scoring with a volley.
Wylde’s display was all the more impressive considering that he only found out he was to make his first appearance in the starting XI three hours before kick-off.
He told his club’s official website that: "It was a great feeling and I think I did quite well. It was a great surprise for the manager (Walter Smith) and Ally McCoist to put me in the team as I thought I would be watching the game in the stand or I'd maybe
be on the bench.
"There's a few boys that have not played recently so I thought they would get a chance. But just after five o'clock, ‘Coisty’ came in with the team and I looked to see if I was a substitute and my name wasn't there. I then looked at the starting 11 and saw
I was on the left."
Expecting return to bench
The Scotland Under-19 attacker is expecting to drop back to the bench for Saturday’s Scottish Premier League match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, but he feels that he will be ready to make an impact if he makes it on to the pitch at Ibrox.
Wylde added that: "The squad is quite small right now but the gaffer had a meeting with us and said he was happy with that because it is easier to work with. He also knows that there are a few young boys in there like myself, Kyle Hutton, John Fleck and Jordan
McMillan who all want to do well."
