Rangi Chase is looking for dual nationality before appearing in Four Nations
While talking to reporters, the New Zealand born Rangi Chase of Castleford Tigers, has confirmed on Wednesday, October 5, that he is planning to take British nationality in order to prove his loyality to the English squad, which is preparing for the Gillette
Four Nations Series.
The 2011 season has been extraordinary for the Tigers’ player, who recently won Super League Man of Steel title, beating Sam Tomkins of Wigan Warriors and James Roby of St. Helens.
Tomkins and Roby will be seen alongside Chase, in the English squad, which makes this all the more interesting.
While sharing his much talked-about move to English side, the player added that he had given up hopes on his inclusion in the New Zealand squad and considered England his home ever since he had joined in with Castlefords on a four-year contract.
Being a New Zealander by origin, the stand-off has made into the English squad through the residency rule, which make him ready for dual-nationality.
Following in the footsteps of the Australian Tony Smith, who embarked on the English squad as their head coach, the Man of Steel 2011 shared, “I have to wait five years for that but when it comes it's something I'll definitely be thinking about, it's something
I want to do. This is what I call home so I'm privileged to be in the squad.”
Chase also acknowledged that he had still two more years ahead of him before he could play for the English squad, but on getting informed by one of his friends, Mick Robinson that he already fulfils the criteria, he was up for getting it done as early as
possible.
While explaining how he went about it, Chase added, "I got Steve's number and it happened from there.I didn't talk to my family - I've grown up making my own decisions and learning from them - but I spoke to my girlfriend, who is from Altofts, near Castleford.
She played a big part in my decision. As far as I'm concerned, we'll be here for a long time.”
