Rangi Chase named to Castleford Tigers’ 19-man squad - Rugby news
On August 5th, Rangi Chase, the star player for the Castleford Tigers has been named by Terry Matterson, the head coach of Castleford, to the 19-man squad for the semi-final of the Carnegie Challenge Cup against Leeds Rhinos, at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium,
on Sunday, August 7.
His inclusion into the squad has been made but their is no confirmation that he will participate in Sunday’s clash.
Chase is undergoing legal proceedings on the charge of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) in Australia regarding an incident which took place in November 2008, before he joined the Tigers. He had to fly to Australia for the case proceedings that have made his inclusion
for the semi-finals shaky.
In order to rule out any possibility of missing out on the Sunday night’s clash, Castleford’s management had already booked his return ticket.
Nothing so far has been revealed by the franchise pertaining to the case and its nature as they have vowed not to issue any statement about Chase’s ongoing legal procedure.
Amidst the mystery which surrounds the fans and opponents alike about Chase’s inclusion, the head coach of Tigers is confident about their win against the Rhinos, whether Chase makes it into the final squad of semi final or not.
While commenting about the semi-final at Keepmount and Chase’s inclusion in the squad, Matterson stated, "If he's there on Sunday, he's playing; if he's not, he won't. There's been a lot of innuendo about whether he's playing or not and we might as well
play it out until Sunday. We're confident we can deal with or without him. We've been preparing for this for a couple of weeks. Dean Widders and Ryan McGoldrick have played stand-off. Obviously he's our best player - that's not a secret - and we'd rather have
him but we're really confident in what we can do without him.”
Matterson acknowledged that Chase is the best player on board but he remained confident about playing well otherwise as well. He also confirmed that players like Widders and McGoldrick have also been part of the training sessions for a few weeks just before
the big clash on Sunday.
Matterson, believes that his squad is in perfect form to contest against the Rhinos because his squad includes players who were not part of the fixtures lined up in previous weeks but they can be relied upon easily for the win.
With the latest proceedings within Castleford, the mystery continues to prevail for Rhinos, who will keep on guessing whether Chase will be part of the Sunday nights clash or not.
