Rangi Chase says that he is unhappy with his performance in England's win against France
Rangi Chase labelled his contribution in the English side’s 32-18 win against the France on Saturday, October 22, as unsatisfactory in his self evaluation. He also admitted that for the performance, he was shocked to find out that he was still awarded with the man of the match title.
The hype about Chase’s recent Super League Man of Steel win was yet not over, when to add to the long list of his accomplishments, the man of the match award was also added after his commendable on field performance.
The crucial English win against France will make the team’s confidence soar just ahead of the Gillette Four Nations Series. Chase played a major role in England’s first three tries but was not very happy with his personal performance.
While talking to reporters at Avignon Airport when the English side was heading back to its home ground in Loughborough University, Chase acknowledged that he had mixed feelings. He admitted that he felt great about playing for England, but he did not measure up to his own expectations.
While explaining that he is always very hard on himself, the player added that by analysing the shortfalls during the recent showdown, he will incorporate any insights into his side's upcoming games.
According to Chase the game could have been far better than what it had been. He went on and said, “We can only improve from here. It's good that we haven't peaked too early, we can build on that. We all contributed to them getting back in the game. Jack Reed looked solid but I don't think anyone stood out. We've got a few weeks to improve. We had some opportunities; we just needed to do the basics. We tried to force the ball and, if you give them a sniff, they can do anything, which they showed. We spoke about getting into a rhythm and building some momentum."
He also added that there is a need for an in-depth analysis of the game, so that things may be tweaked accordingly in hopes of achieving a better game in the future.
