Ranomi Kromowidjojo clinches Women’s 100m freestyle title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Olympic gold medallist, Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands impressed her fans on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup through her impeccable swim in the freestyle final heat in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8, 2011. The session
of the meet conducted the Women’s 100m freestyle final race.
In the corresponding swim, Kromowidjojo was the hot favourite to win the gold medal. She was up against two other favourite contestants of the meet, Marleen Veldhuis and Yu Hang Sze. The final heat began in thrilling fashion, as Netherlands’ Ranomi Kromowidjojo
was on top of the race due to her animated speed as she posted a record-breaking time of 52.88 seconds to win the Women’s 100m freestyle title.
Ranomi Kromowidjojo is a renowned swimmer of Netherlands. She has unique swimming expertise in freestyle, back-stroke and butterfly strokes. Kromowidjojo was the gold medallist in the Women’s 4x100m freestyle race at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. At
the moment, she is putting in a lot of effort and preparing hard for next year’s Olympic Games, which are scheduled to be held in London.
Ranomi Kromowidjojo’s compatriot, Marleen Veldhuis and Hong Kong’s Yu Hang Sze posted an impressive time of 53.97 seconds and 54.27 seconds to claim silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the corresponding race, Shijia Wang of China was placed fourth
as she finished with a mark of 54.40 seconds. On the other hand, Dorothea Brandt of Germany earned fifth place honours after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim with a unique mark of 54.66 seconds.
Moreover, three other swimmers including Petra Granlund of Sweden, Yue Li of China and Louise Hansson of Sweden stood amongst the top eight position holders. Petra, Li and Hansson finished sixth, seventh and eighth in a time of 54.77 seconds, 54.92 seconds
and 55.01 seconds, respectively.
The crowd enjoyed the overwhelming swims of all athletes in the respective meet and the top three winning contestants were awarded accolades and cash prizes after the session’s completion.
