Ranomi Kromowidjojo lowers Olympic record of Women’s 100m freestyle – London Olympic Games
Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands lowered the Olympic record of the Women’s 100m freestyle on day six of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 2.
The 21-year-old Kromowidjojo served notice of her talent in the two-lap freestyle discipline and stifled hopes of her challengers by occupying gold medal in a new Olympic record time.
Her scintillating struggle remained half body length faster from her foregoing finisher as she showed her urgency towards the finishing blockade with the timing of 53.00 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained 0.38 seconds faster from Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus, who followed her on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by producing a time of 53.38 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Yi Tang of China, who remained only 0.06 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and touched the finishing blockade with the timing of 53.44 seconds.
Similarly, Tang was trailed by Melanie Schlanger of Australia, who remained just 0.03 seconds slower from overpowering her and settled on the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 53.47 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the discipline was obtained by Missy Franklin of USA, who suffered a loss of 0.17 seconds from her foregoing finisher and produced an effort of 53.64 seconds.
Franklin was followed by Francesca Halsall of Great Britain, who stayed 0.02 seconds apart and finished sixth in the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 53.66 seconds.
Subsequently, the British swimmer was chased by Jeanette Ottesen Gray of Denmark, who stayed 0.09 seconds slower from upsetting her former finisher and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 53.75 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the race was obtained by American swimmer, Jessica Hardy, who stayed 0.27 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and ended her sprint in eighth best place by submitting a time of 54.02 seconds.
Kromowidjojo was extremely pleased with her record-shattering performance while the audience also appreciated her unbeatable form. In addition, the Dutch swimmer stated that she would train hard to improve the world record in future.
