Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Friday, June 15.
The 21-year-old Kromowidjojo served notice of her talent by snaring gold medal of the 100m event. With her persistent efforts, she gave no chance to her competitors and occupied the title of the event.
She remained comfortably ahead of her opponents throughout the discipline and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 53.09 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Sarah Sjoestrom of Sweden, who stayed 1.21 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 54.30 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Therese Alshammar of Sweden, who was 0.15 seconds away from overpowering the second position holder and clocked an effort of 54.45 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Femke Heemskerk of Netherlands, who stayed only 0.08 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 54.53 seconds.
Subsequently, Heemskerk enjoyed an advantage of 0.10 seconds over her teammate, Marleen Veldhuis, who stayed promiennt for fourth position of the freestyle discipline and submitted a time of 54.63 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was secured by Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark, who remained 0.09 seconds behind her former finisher and finished her race with an effort of 54.72 seconds.
Similarly, Ottesen remained nearly two strokes faster from her following swimmer, Haruka Ueda of Japan, who secured seventh position of the discipline with the timing of 55.01 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who remained prominently behind her foregoing finisher.
Dekker remained 0.34 seconds slower from Ueda on the finishing end and secured eighth spot of the race by submitting a time of 55.35 seconds.
The crowd admired remarkable sprints of all participants in the 100m discipline while the position holders received medals and accolades for their laudable efforts at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship. Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner.
