Ranomi Kromowidjojo secures Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day one - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands secured gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on foremost day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Thursday, June 14.
The 21-year-old Kromowidjojo met expectations of her supporters by seizing gold medal of the shortest freestyle event. With her astonishing pace, she gave no chance to her challengers to retaliate and smothered her hopes by capturing gold medal of the event.
She continued her impeccable pace throughout the single lap discipline and finished first in the event with a wonderful timing of 24.21 seconds.
Her unbeatable effort remained 0.31 seconds faster from Therese Alshammar of Sweden, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal.
The gold medallist was chased by Alshammar, who proved her eligibility for second position of the discipline by producing a time of 24.52 seconds.
Third spot of the discipline was secured by Marleen Veldhuis of Netherlands, who was only 0.06 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 24.58 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by her teammate, Inge Dekker, who stayed 0.39 seconds apart and hit the finishing end for fourth position with an effort of 24.97 seconds.
Dekker, who recently won gold medal of the 100m butterfly, was trailed by Sarah Sjoestrom of Sweden, who suffered a deficit of 0.28 seconds and finished fifth in the event with an effort of 25.25 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was secured by Marieke Guehrer of Australia, who was 0.12 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 25.37 seconds.
Guehrer was chased by Haruka Ueda of Japan, who remained prominent for seventh position of the discipline by posting a time of 25.45 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was secured by Pernille Blume of Denmark, who stayed 0.21 seconds slower from her former finisher and ended eighth with the timing of 25.66 seconds.
In addition, the crowd acknowledged exhausting efforts of all finalists in the 50m event while the position holders were invited on the victory stand for medals and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
