Ranomi Kromowidjojo wins Women’s 50m freestyle semi-finals: Day seven – FINA World Championships

Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands won the fastest qualification spot in the final rounds, by dominating the semi-finals of same event on the seventh day of the 2011 Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) organised World Championships on Saturday, July
30, in Shanghai, China.

Kromowidjojo displayed a phenomenal effort in front of the arena to enter the final as the top fastest swimmer, as she submitted a fastest time of 24.56 seconds. Her fastest qualifying effort was just 0.83 seconds above the world mark of 23.73 seconds, made
by Britta Steffen of Germany at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.

She was trailed by Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark, who stayed only 0.05 seconds behind the fastest swimmer and concluded her swim in a nice time of 24.61 seconds. Therese Alshammar of Sweden was the third finest swimmer to reach the final rounds, as she was ahead
her former finisher by just 0.02 seconds and qualified for the finals in the third fastest time of 24.63 seconds.

In the meantime, the arena witnessed the remarkable effort of Bulgarian swimmer, Aliaksandra Herasimenia, who stayed just 0.03 seconds behind the third finest swimmer and qualified as the fourth fastest swimmer in a time of 24.69 seconds.
Great Britain’s Francesca Halsall was the fifth fastest swimmer to enter the final round, as she remained just 0.11 seconds behind her foregoing competitor and ended her swim in a time of 24.80 seconds. She was followed by Marleen Veldhuis of Netherlands,
who remained just 0.08 seconds behind Halsall and reached the final round with a sixth fastest timing of 24.88 seconds.
Jessica Hardy of USA emerged as the seventh fastest swimmer to confirm her berth into the final round, as she stayed 0.12 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and touched the finishing wall to post a time of 25.00 seconds. Vanderpool Wallace of Bahamas was
the last swimmer to qualify for the final round, as she produced a time of 25.05 seconds.

Furthermore, the arena appreciated the efforts of all the competitors in the respective meet and these swimmers will face each other in the final rounds to earn a podium finish at the championships.
