Ranomi Kromowidjojo wins Women’s 50m freestyle semi-finals – London Olympic Games
Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands won the semi-finals of the Women’s 50m freestyle on day seven of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Friday, August 3.
The Dutch swimmer, who recently won gold medal of the 100m freestyle discipline, went full rampant in the single lap discipline. With her astonishing pace, Kromowidjojo remained half body length ahead of her opponents throughout the race and tapped the finishing
blockade for gold medal.
The 21-year-old Kromowidjojo stayed considerably ahead over her opponents on the finishing end as she hit the wall with the timing of 24.07 seconds for fastest qualification spot of the race.
Her superb effort was followed by Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus, who remained 0.38 seconds slower from her former finisher and entered the playoff as second best swimmer with an effort of 24.45 seconds.
Herasimenia was chased by Marleen Veldhuis of Netherlands, who remained 0.05 seconds apart and finished third in the discipline by reporting a time of 24.50 seconds.
Similarly, fourth fastest qualification spot of the race was secured by defending champion, Britta Steffen of Germany, who remained 0.07 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 24.57 seconds.
The German swimmer was chased by Francesca Halsall of Great Britain, who suffered a loss of 0.06 seconds from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing blockade as fifth fastest swimmer by producing an effort of 24.63 seconds.
Halsall was chased by Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of Bahamas, who was just 0.01 seconds slower from her former finisher and made her way into the playoff as sixth best finisher by submitting an effort of 24.64 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Jessica Hardy of USA, who was only 0.04 seconds away from overpowering her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 24.68 seconds.
Hardy was traced by Therese Alshammar of Sweden, who finished her race in eighth best place by submitting a time of 24.71 seconds.
Furthermore, Kromowidjojo was delighted with her effort while these finalists will contend each other in the playoff for the podium.
