Is ransacking in the theft category or vandalism category. cause in ransacking (people just scatter things on the floor that whats ransacking is)

  1. Ransacking cannot take place without the crime of "burglary" first.  In that case it is considered an "included offense".  In some states it is part of "breaking and entering".  Both cover the same basic concept of "entering or remaining unlawfully for the purpose of comitting a crime".

    I think it would be in the vandalism category, it really depends on what state your in.

That would be vandalism - unless something is missing.  It can't be theft unless something was removed from the property.  It would be vandalism, destruction of private property, breaking and entering (unless you were invited in or had the legal right to enter the premises to "ransack" it) etc.


  4. In the UK it would be an aggravating feature of a theft or burglary charge if something was stolen or the offender was a trespasser. If nothing was stolen or there was no burglary, it would be criminal damage.
