Ransom Note to bounce back into form for defending the Weatherbys Earl Of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket
The Group 3 Weatherbys Earl Of Sefton Stakes will get hosted by Newmarket over a mile and a furlong on Thursday, 19th April. Participating in the race are ten four-year and older thoroughbreds while the purse of the race is set at £31,191.
Quite a few of the entries are fairly practiced at racing at Newmarket while some are ready for taking hold of the reigns of the new season through today’s race.
Ransom Note, Red Ransome’s five-year-old bay horse out of mare, Zacheta, won the Group 2 Nayef Joel Stakes on 23rd September over a mile at Newmarket. Riding with Michael Hills, Ransom Note led the runner up of the race, Premio Loco, by 2 ¼ lengths.
Poet’s Voice ended third behind the winner while the 5/2 favourite of the race, Tazahum, ended fourth on the track of seven.
The first of the two starts at Newmarket during the previous season was the Group 3 Weatherbys Earl Of Sefton Stakes on 14th April 2011 which Ransom Note dominated. He had a one and a half lengths’ lead from the runner up of the race,
Polytechnicien.
The 2/1 favourite of the race, Elusive Pimpernel, parked in third behind the winner.
Same as the previous season, Ransom Note will crack for the new campaign at Newmarket.
Albaqaa, Medicean’s seven-year-old chestnut gelding out of mare, Basbousate Nadia, was successful at Newmarket on 8th July in the TurfTV Handicap over a mile. The victory was no piece of cake as the 4/1 favourite runner up, My Freedom, was barging
in for the wire at just a nose’s differential.
Settling third behind the winner was Markazzi.
Albaqaa’a final two races of the previous season were at Newmarket but both were failures. A third attempt in a row in the form of the 2012 seasonal debut at Newmarket just might be the chance that he was looking for all along.
Questioning has raced at Newmarket four times during the previous season but has failed to bag any of the races that came his way. He ended third thrice and ran into a fourteenth position on 24th September 2011.
The competitive line-up coupled with the approaching seasonal debut can make the race challenging for Ransom Note.
