Raoni Monteiro claims heat 6 of the Men’s Round of 96 at the Saquarema Surf Pro International
Brazilian surfer Raoni Monteiro captured the attention of the Saquarema crowd on account of his most aggressive performance in heat 6 of the Men’s Round of 96 of the 2011 Saquarema Surf Pro International in Brazil, May 24.
Monteiro clinched 9.40 points in the single wave of the corresponding heat out of 10 and he ended the heat with a stellar score of 16.53 out of 20.
After the execution of heat 6, the Brazilian surfer said, “I had some good scores, so I tried to catch the biggest waves of the set because they were really good, opening-up and with a nice face.”
On the other hand, the surfer from Ukraine, Aritz Aranburu earned second place honours with a total score of 14.43, while Ricardo Santos of Brazil was placed third with a total score of 13.40. Australian surfer Brent Dorrington settled for fourth place with
7.10 points, whereas Santos and Dorrington have failed to book their places in the Men’s round of 48.
Meanwhile, Monteiro said after the heat, “That high score came off of a left that opened up well and I made that first turn the way the judges like to see them, by really blowing-out the tail. Afterwards, I just kept surfing powerfully until the end of the
wave.”
Hailing from Brazil, Monterio is considered one of the most aggressive surfers in the competition. His performance at Saquarema today showed that the surfer is ready to push boundaries and come out on top no matter how tough the conditions might be.
In another heat, US surfer Cory Lopez wound up first with the fastest score of 16.64. Meanwhile, Leandro Bastos of Brazil captured the second spot with a total score of 11.70 and the Aussie surfer Davey Cathels settled third with 11.57 points. Nat Young
