Raphaël Jacquelin ready for another strong charge at the Alstom Open de France – Golf news
Raphaël Jacquelin relishing the opportunity to return to the field of the Alstom Open de France, a tournament that saw him contending strongly in the final round and finishing third on the leaderboard last year.
The tournament will be staged at the Le Golf National, the same course where Jacquelin enjoyed success at an amateur at the 1993 edition of the French Junior Championships.
In 2011, Thomas Levet became the sixth Frenchman in the 108 year history of the tournament to record a victory. Last year, Jacquelin came close to becoming the seventh, however, he had to settle for the third position in the end.
A run of straight three birdies on the front nine in the final round allowed the 39 year old charge into contention for the top spot in the tournament. Yet, his back-nine performance was not good enough to surpass the eventual winner Marcel Siem.
He now believes that his game is in good shape to take another shot for the top spot at Le Golf National this week.
“I am confident that I can play well this week and really make a challenge for the title,” said Jacquelin, who currently ranks at the 37th position in the Race to Dubai. “I am really looking forward to it so I think I can do something and I just want to
feel the support of the French people.
“Last year when I made the three birdies on five six and seven I could feel the support of the people willing me to try and win and it is just an amazing feeling to that in front of big crowd in your home country,” he added.
Jacquelin is no doubt one of the best players the French soil has ever produced. Recently, he secured the fourth European Tour victory of his career at the Open de España and became the number French Number One.
Courtesy of his strong form recently and a decent track record in his local Open and the host venue, he certainly has the ability to outshine each and every player scheduled to participate in the event.
