Raphael Jacquelin keeping the French dream alive
The 1st day of the French day is over. Golfers have tried to do their best, some succeeded while others failed.
The venue for the tournament is Le Golf National, near Paris. For this reason, the local players have special support of the home crowd.
That being said, at the same time, there is added pressure for the home players. After day one, Raphael Jacquelin is on top of all the French players. He seems to be using the home crowd advantage quite well.
Jacquelin had a great start to his game, as he carded two birdies on the first two holes. After that he scored a bogey on the fourth hole.
The rest of his front nine were just pars. He scored no eagles or double bogeys. Thus, his score on the front nine was one-under par.
His back nine was slightly better. He was able to score two birdies on the twelfth and fifteenth hole. There were no eagles, bogeys or double bogey. His score on the back nine was two-under par.
Jacquelin’s total score for the day became three-under par. He was able to complete the 7347 yards course in 68 shots. He is three strokes behind the leader Christian Nilsson.
After the day, Jacquelin was tied at the eighth position with Marcel Siem, Henrik Stenson, Steve Webster, Jeev Milkha Singh, Paul Waring and Tjaart Van Der Walt.
After the match, the 38-year-old was happy with his performance. In an interview, discussing his game, he said, “I think three under here on Le Golf National, I'll take it, I’m very happy with it. I saved a lot of pars, but I think the set-up of the course
is like that”.
“It's probably pretty much the same as usual from the tee, which I think makes it easier for me because even when you hit the ball in the rough, you're going to lay up anyway and you're not going to try to hit the greens,” he continued.
He also said that all the French players are determined to win the trophy and it is far from over. Three days are still left in the tournament. The Frenchman will have to be consistent to win the trophy.
