Raphael Varane’s future at Real Madrid – La Liga special
The boy has made the move which every football playing youngster aspires to. Real Madrid came calling it was a yes all along. He joins the ranks of Portuguese duo of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973 at Real Madrid and is expected to blossom under their tautology.
Varane progressed through the youth ranks at Lille after joining them in 2002. At 17 years of age, he was added to the U19 roster and was handed a professional contract after his promotion. He made his professional debut in November last year and became
a mainstay in the squad soon after.
Varane’s rise in Lille’s first team has been spectacular as the defence was made around him. He appeared in 23 competitive games for his boyhood club, and troubled the scoring sheet twice. Lille had great hopes in him and wished to keep him for a while longer
but saying no to Real Madrid is a feat achieved by a very few clubs.
With the player exemplifying his talent through his performances, Real Madrid had to be interested. An eighteen year old captaining a squad of men is a rare sight and Lille supporters could boast about it. In the match against Arles-Avignon on May 21, Varane
lead his team as Lille faithful rejoiced at the sight.
Manchester United came for his signature and were tipped to steal him, but fate was not on their side. Legendary playmaker Zinedine Zidane used his influence to stop Varane’s move to Manchester and took him to Madrid. Manager Jose Mourinho helped him make
the decision on his future and now he finds himself in the Madrid squad, full of enterprising youngsters of his age.
The Frenchman is a giant with tremendous physical strength. In the Madrid dressing room, he will be accompanied by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 as they look to establish themselves in the starting line up. The addition of Raphael Varane will add depth at the back. He will
be an understudy to ageing Ricardo Carvalho, who would take the prodigy under his wings.
First team minutes will be hard to come by for Varane in the opening weeks as Madrid would not like to lose ground to Barcelona early in the season. Cameo appearances in the closing stages of league fixtures should suffice for now. Mourinho does not take
cup competitions lightly and Varane is already aware of the fact. Varane will have to prove his worth in training as well as in the dying moments of the games.
Compared to former French great, Laurent Blanc, the player has much to learn. Zidane is hopeful that the player will make it big in the Spanish Capital. "I have watched plenty of Varane and he is like Blanc, fast, intelligent and he is a big player also,"
Zidane commented about the youngster.
He will be groomed at at Castilla as he develops his game and learns the traditions of the Capital club. While getting into Madrid might be easy, establishing a name for yourself in the first team is easier said than done – someone should ask Kaka. Varane
is still 18 years of age and he has six years to go on his contract with Madrid. Playing in a Real Madrid jersey is an honour for most and Varane should understand this. He should wait for his time and carve his place in the squad whenever he gets the option.
