Rapid Redux joins the league of all time greats by galloping into his 16th straight victory at Timonium
Each horse race impacts the history of new records set and previous ones broken. This was made possible on 4th September, 2011 as Rapid Redux won the eighth race at the Maryland State Fair in Timonium which qualified for being his 16th
consecutive victory.
The victory itself was not an ordinary one, rather quite a spectacular one with Rapid Redux edging by for a 6 ½ length victory.
This amazing achievement entitles the proud jockey, J.D Acosta, the credit of steering the colt impeccably through the Timonium track.
He geared up the horse at the mid stretch - final turn by a good five length's lead and then tactfully geared down in the final sixteenth of a mile.
According to Acosta, the horse can slow down and wait on the horses but has the mental strength to gear up when the time is right.
“He waits on horses and I was getting really nervous,” said winning trainer, David Wells. “And just as quickly he seems to find another gear. He’s got starter eligibility for another three months and we’re going to use that to our best advantage”.
Acosta has already won a title last year and has also brought home two jockey titles in the last three Mayland State Fair meetings. To date he has won three of his races onboard Rapid Redux.
He is a 5 year old gelding, son of Pleasantly Perfect, is currently stationed at Penn National Race Course under charge David Wells. He has won 22 of 36 races and has been able to earn $294,144 in four seasons of racing.
His potential has made him stand ‘neck to neck’ with all time greats Citation and Cigar as Thorouhgbreds who have won sixteen in a row.
It already is an outstanding achievement but a record of 19 straight victories is way more tempting and alluring and thus both Zenyatta and Pepper’s Pride are now the inspiration for Rapid Redux.
His career path and the milestones to be achieved are carefully laid out by all of his connections. How soon he would be able to come at par with those in the straight 19 league would depend upon the level of determination of the entire team, which is of
course no where low!!
