Rapid Redux one win away from tying the record of 19 wins on the trot
The 5-year-old Robert Cole Jr.’s Rapid Redux has withstood challenges from various opponents in his massive winning streak, which contains 18 wins of the trot and now he is one win closer to tying the record which Zenyatta and Peppers Pride set for the modern
day North American record for consecutive victories.
The son of Pleasantly Perfect, out of Thiscatsforcaryl by Storm Cat, Rapid Redux battled for the first mile but in his traditional style drew away when it mattered the most to win his 18th race in a row at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races
on 14 October, 2011.
There was a lot of pace pressure to contend with for Rapid Redux, but under his trusty partner jockey J. D. Acosta made it look easy despite the rapid rival runs.
Rapid Redux drew the rail, but went on to grab the lead early over the 1 1/8 mile long starter allowance test, but was pulled back by a Fort Erie shipper, Working Man Blues to his outside.
The front running Rapid Redux got pegged down by Working Man Blues on outside who was ridden by jockey Michael McMullen.
Rapid Reduz set the early fractions, going the opening quarter mile in 24.33 seconds and for the half mile mark he was 48.81 seconds, completing the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 14.32 seconds.
On a track rated good, Smiling Jordan took full advantage of Working Man Blues backing away, and made a strong run from the back, but eventually weakened to fall back, while Rapid Redux re opened his lead.
Trained by David Wells, Rapid Redux this time came strong, reaching a mile in 1 minute and 38.64 seconds and surged to victory by 4 ¾ lengths with the winning time of 1 minute and 51.94 seconds.
Rapid Redux defeated Smiling Jordan and Working Man Blues in the process, who finished second and third respectively.
Owner Robert Cole expressed his joy, when he found out that his runner beat the 1 1/8 mile stakes time, he further said he can do that on any track against any horse, it’s just not the cheaper horses he is good against
