Rapid Redux out to tie the all-time United States record in his next start at Monmouth Park
The 5-year-old gelded son of Pleasantly Perfect, Rapid Redux, has been toppling over records for fun now with overall wins of 19 on the trot. David J Wells trained Rapid Redux is now out to tie the modern all-time record of most consecutive wins in a single
season.
Right now, Citation holds the record of 19 wins in 20 starts altogether in a single season which was set way back in 1948 and to go with it he also captured the Triple Crown.
Rapid Redux is currently 20 wins in as many starts, and for the season he is a perfect 18 out of 18 with two wins coming in the backend on the 2010 season.
Out of mare Thiscatsforcaryl by Storm Cat, Rapid Redux is going to make an attempt to tie the all-time United States record in a calendar year when he goes out to race in a starter allowance with the purse of $17,000.
The race is for those horses that have started for a claiming price of $5,000 or less in 2010 or 2011 and it is run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles. Rapid Redux drew the rail but that shouldn’t be a problem because in his record breaking race he drew the
rail as well.
The Monmouth Park starter allowance has reeled in six runners including the ominous contender at Monmouth Park, Zosogood, who has won his three straight races at the venue since mid-October.
“Citation is one of the all-time greats, just to be mentioned in the same sentence is unbelievable,” owner Robert Cole said. “The Citation record has stood for more than 60 years so I would like to get a part of that and possibly break it before the end
of the month. That record might be more impressive, not that the consecutive record isn’t, because how a horse can win 19 races in one calendar year is like going to another galaxy on a space ship. It is beyond imagination.”
Remarkably Rapid Redux after such a hectic season is as fit as he has ever been, and he is expected to carry on the speed in his next start as well.
