Rapid Redux to rest through the winter after stamping the debut for 2012 at the Laurel Park on 4th January
Instead of being ‘jack of all stakes’, Rapid Redux has excelled in what he does best, winning just the starter allowances.
After posting his straight twenty second victory, the six-year-old gelding is being put off the tracks for the winter to rest.
"He's going to be out a couple of months and we're just going to rest him," the Daily Racing Form was told by Cole
"He's tired and he's got some aches and pains and if he doesn't get a rest, he's going to go downhill. You could tell the last race or two he wasn't quite as good as he was earlier. The game plan is to give him the winter and see where we are in two
or three months”.
Rapid Redux has already surpassed the record of the American Triple Crown winner, Citation, who could not bag more than nineteen victories in a year.
While achieving that, Rapid Redux also went ahead of the records set by Zenyatta and Peppers Pride, both of whom had the US record of nineteen straight wins.
The gelding of Pleasantly Perfect out of Thiscatsforcaryl, trained by David Wells, will seek out his straight twenty-third win after resting through the winter.
After hitting nineteen consecutive races in 2011, Rapid Redux was awarded the Special Eclipse Award by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Forum and the National Turf Writers And Broadcasters.

He took the benchmark of the starter allowances to an all new exciting level by winning it a twenty-second time on 4th January, 2012 at the Laurel Park, and was awarded the 2011 Secretariat Vox Populi, or “Voice of the People”
Award.
This honour is presented to those horses that are the most popular among the American public, and have contributed tremendously to thoroughbred racing.
The voting that was done for this award also included Uncle Mo, Havre de Grace and Goldikova, but Rapid Redux led by 39%.
He has already posted his season's debut victory.
What the connections have in mind for him for the rest of the season has not been revealed yet, and would make news at the beginning of summer, once Rapid Redux gets done with resting.
