wth gas prices plumetting motorists are using their automobiles less. But is this a knee jerk reaction or will it hold? The car has become an integral part of the US household and in my opinion putting away the car now is short term and people will get back to its usage to the prior increase period after a short time.Do you agree?

  1. I use my car much less now and i group all errands to im not running in ten diferent directions.

  2. Most people will probably ignore it, or turn to more fuel efficient vehicles.  What will happen is that everyone will get used to gas being between 3 and 4 dollars, so that when it goes up even more for a short period of time and then drops back to what it is now it will seem cheap to them.

  3. These prices are here to stay and people have to adapt.

  4. well, gas prices aren't plummeting, they are skyrocketing.  the decline in auto usage is more or less temporary.  people are still driving to work and to the store, however maybe they're making 1-2 trips to the store per week as opposed to 3-5.  I personally don't take the 75 mile trip to see friends and family every weekend as I used to.  it makes a big difference in my gas purchasing habits.  When you have a 15 gallon tank and spend nearly $60 to fill it, that's pretty insane.

However, if you'll look carefully at what Bush as been telling Americans and OPEC, there is probably room to believe there will be more expensive gas on the horizon.  They have been ratcheting up the price for about 5 or 6 years now.  I would bet that it will come to a crest at about $5.50 within the next year or year and a half.  he also told OPEC that they need to be sure that they have more to offer the world than oil, as it is not an infinite commodity.  I sense that we'll see a huge push here in the states for a very different type of fuel within 10 years.  they are already working on some ideas, but it will become a top priority and very common by 2020.

  5. yes i agree

  6. Well here in po folk Tennessee the interstates had the fewest cars, motor homes, trucks and travel trailers,I have ever seen. Most people stayed at home.

I live in a snobbish neighborhood, all my neighbors stayed home, they use to drive everywhere. But now can't afford to drive their big trucks and SUVs.

Glad I bought a old Benz last year and converted to waste vegetable oils.My family goes where it wants.
