Raptors future star Davis undergoes successful knee surgery
Former North Carolina and Toronto Raptors stud Ed Davis reportedly underwent a successful surgery in his right knee, multiple sources reported Tuesday.
Raptors arthroscopic surgeon Dr. Paul Marks reportedly performed the surgery Tuesday morning at at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto Canada.
Reports indicated the surgery was aimed at repairing a cartilage tear (meniscus) in his right knee.
Tapped as the Raptors next franchise player, the 21-year-old Davis sustained the injury while playing basketball last week.
Even before Chris Bosh took an exit in the offseason, Raptors general manager Bryan already Colangelo made insurance at the power forward position by selecting Davis as the 13th overall pick
in April’s NBA draft.
Davis emerged into the basketball scene after his outstanding prep years at Hanover High School (Mechanicsville, Virginia). Together with future UNC star Tyler Zeller and Larry Drew II, Davis powered Hanover
High to a couple of state title (Virginia).
Davis averaged 22 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocks in his senior year, netting him Virginia’s Mr. Basketball award in 2008.
North Carolina, one of the pillars of college basketball in the United States, received a commitment from Davis right after graduating.
In his freshman year with the Tar Heels, Davis displayed a deep repertoire of offensive game in just limited minutes. Davis served as backup to Tar Heels legend and Pacers forward Tyler Hansbrough, averaging
6.7 points and 7 boards per game.
After winning the 2009 NCAA Tournament, Davis returned for his sophomore year but had an abbreviated season after suffering a season-ending injury (broken wrist) in a game against Duke in February.
Colangelo previously said Davis will serve as the centerpiece of their rebuilding plan.
Davis, who’s expected to recover in five to six weeks, will likely compose the Raptors frontline along with Linas Kleiza and center Andrea Bargnani.
