Question:

Rare beanie baby prices?

I'm wondering about the prices of three 'rare' beanie babies. I'm looking up the prices for a mint condition 'Derby' with the #4008 on its tag with coarse hair and a white star on the forehead -- some are valued at $1500, while I see some on ebay for $10.00.

I also have two Mystic's -- Mint condition, coarse hair, and a sparkly horn. I've seen some valued at $550, but on ebay some are selling for $5.

Finally, I have a 'Princess' -- I've seen some valued at $80, yet they can be seen on ebay for $5.00.

Can someone explain, please?

Thanks!

  1. This question comes up a LOT.

It comes down to what is the most reliable information source:

An outdated, overinflated price guide? Or an auction, where people vote with real dollars on the going price for collectibles.

I bet money talks, and that the collective price gathering from auctions like ebay are a much better source of values.

    Good luck!

  2. The reason why you are seeing a variance in the prices is because the beanie babies that were selling for hundreds of dollars are no longer worth hundreds of dollars...

The company that manufactured beanie babies saw how much they were making off of the "so called rare" beanies and mass produced them in hopes of making a profit

This in turn glutted the market and the beanie babies took a DRASTIC drop... Now all of the beanie babies are no longer considered collectible because they can be found EVERYWHERE ... even the "rare" beanies...

and the collectors that thought they had something truly valuable found out that they didn't...

Those collectors that are still trying to sell beanie babies for outlandish prices are trying to "get over" on unsuspecting buyers who are not aware of the " beanie baby crash "

  3. maybe the ones on bay are not "real" beanie babies... and just fake ones, and that is why they are so cheap
