My 6.5 month old has been eating sweet potato for a week. Until now, I have noticed a rash on her back. Could this mean she is allergic. She acting normal, no fever and seems her happy self. That is why I am a bit confused. Any suggestions?

  1. The rash might just be from an itchy outfit or because it is so darn hot outside!  I have noticed that polyester in the summer for my little one creates rashes.  If you try green beans for a week with no sweet potatoes and the rash goes away...I'd then introduce sweet potatoes again and if the rash comes back then bingo!

I put Aquafor on my son's rashes and it clears them up pretty quickly. It is a great moisturizer but is a little greasy.

  2. Most children if have an intolerance or are allergic do only get rashes on their bodies. Quite often they show no other symptoms. I would stop the sweet potato for a few more months and then reintroduce it. Or go and get a consult from your GP.

  3. babies get all kinds of rashes. My baby always had a rash. Get a doctor to look at it. I would stop feeding your baby sweet potatoes, and then try it again in a week or so. It probably isn't the sweet potatoes, but you never know. I gave my baby blue berries, and she came down with a horrible rash, all down her ear, and her neck. I waited a month, tried again, and she is fine, no rash, but a doctor should be able to tell you if it is an allergic reaction.

  4. I would discontinue the sweet potatoes and see if the rash goes away.
