Former light heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Rashad Evans has not fought much in the last three years, yet he believes there are a lot of fights ahead of him. The once best friend of current champion Jon Jones, Evans tried to end
Jones’ era but failed. Since then, Evans has been in the shadows.
As it always happens, being the rival of Jones, Evans has asserted that The American Gangster Chael Sonnen can defeat Jones at The Ultimate Fighter Season 17.
“I got a lot of fights left in me. I've still got the competitive edge and that's what it's all about. And I still love the sport enough to want to compete. See? You can love the sport, but if you don't love the sport enough to compete you better get out
of there,” said Evans to ProMMANow.
Evans went head to head against Jones at UFC 145 but could not end Jones’ reign as champion.
Evans might fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira next year in February in a light heavyweight battle. For Evans, it is a major fight which he has to win if he wants to prolong his career.
“Chael's my boy and I respect the game that he has and I do think he has the game that it takes to get the job done,” he added.
Evans is confident that Sonnen has what it takes to defeat Jones. However, Jones has already asserted that he feels Sonnen is no threat to his crown. According to Jones, the only reason why he opted to fight Sonnen next year is to ‘shut his mouth’ and close
the chapter once and for all in his life.
On the other hand, Sonnen is of the view that Jones is a great fighter but not unbeatable. Sonnen will try his best to make sure he makes the most of his title shot this time. His previous title matches against middleweight champion Anderson Silva came with
no results. He lost both the times to Silva and moved to light heavyweight to challenge Jones. Hopefully, Sonnen will be able to grab the title this time.
