Rashad Evans defends decision of not facing Glover Teixeira – UFC News
Former UFC light heavyweight titlist Rashad Evans defended his decision of not facing Glover Teixeira at UFC 153 via his Twitter account. According to Evans, he would not face any fighter at such a short notice, especially when the fighter is as tough as
Glover.
“I will fight anybody with the proper notice.. But after 8yrs with the UFC & being one of their top earners. Y would I take a bad fight?! ... Bad fight meaning not being in shape. Losing is hard enough but I will never serve myself up! If I'm haven't been
training I won't fight! ... I know alot of u fans may not realize but I don't walk around ready 2 fight. No one does. In this sport it takes at least 8wks 2 b ready! ... Fighting another person is much harder than most ppl think & if im not training it takes
time 2 get ready. There r no easy fights!,” read Evans’ tweet.
Evans has always been a very choosy fighter, probably that is the reason he holds one of the best UFC records.
Evans was offered a fight against Glover Teixeira, a chance to wipe off his last year’s humiliating defeat against Jon Jones. Evans had promised fans a victory against Jones, but he fell too soon to the light heavyweight champion.
In fact, the way Evans trash-talked against Jones, most fans were hoping he would end Jones’ career. However, the result of the fight was too disappointing for fans as well as Evans.
Now, it seems like Evans is in no mood to build his career once again to get his hands on Jones. He has done it all in the division and he wants something more challenging.
Probably, Dana White should come up with a more attractive option for Evans to accept, if he wants to bring ‘Suga’ in the cage once again. Although Evans has notified that he will fight ‘anyone’ if notified earlier, most fans believe he would never go against
Glover Teixeira, as it is a way of adding no more losses to his UFC profile.
