Rashad Evans is disappointed with Jon Jones – UFC News
Former UFC light heavyweight titlist Rashad Evans is disappointed with Jon Jones, the current UFC light heavyweight champion. According to Evans, the Ultimate Fighting Championship supported Jones in his recent car accident case and so the champion owes
the organisation.
“When he got in trouble a few months back, it was the UFC who stood behind him and kind of made it go away relatively quickly,” said Evans in an interview with the Pro MMA Radio.
“So, for him to turn his back on the UFC is very hard to believe, for one, but it's just disappointing. I'm sure one day, when he has the time to understand the ramifications of his decision, he's is gonna think, 'Wow. What did I really do?'”
Jones has attracted criticism from more or less every fighter and analyst around for his selfish behaviour that led to the cancellation of UFC 151. Even though the champion apologised later on, he maintained that whatever he did for his own good and everyone
does that.
Jones was slated to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 151. However, just two weeks before the show Henderson suffered a severe leg injury which prevented him from participating. UFC 151 was scheduled for September 1 but it has been cancelled now.
In order to save the event, president of the UFC Dana White tried to hook up Chael Sonnen as Henderson’s replacement but Jones declined the offer. According to Jones, he was not comfortable in changing his opponent just a week before the showdown.
Chael Sonnen, who would have made his comeback to the light heavyweight division, rang Jones to discuss the scenario but he was left disappointed. Jones declined the notion, which eventually led to the cancellation of the card.
Later on, in a press conference, Dana White expressed his disgust over Jones’ attitude, saying many undercard fighters who make a living fighting would be left with nothing just because of Jones. Even Jones close friend middleweight champion Anderson Silva
believes Jones could have saved the card. However, Silva does accept that it is not easy to change your opponents just a week before the show.
