Rashad Evans talks about UFC 151 cancellation – UFC News
Light heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Jon Jones has yet another naysayer on the list, and this time it is Jon Jones long time foe Rashad Evans. Evans lost to Jones earlier this year on April 21. Evans was being dubbed as Jones’
most vicious opponent to date but he fell to the champion with a unanimous decision.
Following UFC 151’s cancellation, Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen have already condemned Jones’ selfish act and now it is Evans who believes whatever Jones did was selfish.
“For me, it's a two part question for me. For one, you want to always keep it right for the fighters. It's great for the fighters to have the right to choose a fight. That is one of the liberties we do have, the option to say yes or no to a fight. But then
on the other hand, you have a tremendous responsibility as the champion. You are the champion of the UFC. Not only that, you became champion of the UFC through circumstances like this. You had the opportunity to fight for someone that was injured. He stepped
into a fight, after I got hurt, so he stepped in for me to fight Shogun,” claimed Rashad in an interview to Pro MMA Radio.
Jones has already apologised to his fans and fellow fighters for the cancellation of the event. However, the champion insists he has to do whatever he believes is right for him.
Jones was scheduled to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 151. Due to a leg injury sustained by Henderson, he was forced not to participate in the event. In order to save the card, president of UFC Dana White offered Chael Sonnen a match against Jones. Although
Sonnen accepted the showdown, Jones declined it saying he cannot change opponents with just an eight-day notice.
White was surprised by Jones decision, as he was expecting Jones to face Sonnen. Later on, in an interview, White said he believed Jones was the best UFC fighter and he was hoping the light heavyweight champion to accept the challenge right away against
Sonnen.
