Rashad Evans think Georges St-Pierre will defeat Anderson Silva – UFC News
Following Georges St-Pierre win over Carlos Condit at UFC 154, speculations from top-notch names of the UFC are flooding, regarding the possible super-fight between GSP and Anderson Silva. Georges St-Pierre defeated Carlos Condit via unanimous decision to
move closer to a fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Even though GSP iterated he needs some time off to think about his options, UFC officials are already preparing for the showdown.
Recently, former UFC light heavyweight Rashad Evans titlist spoke about the potential super-fight, expressing confidence in GSP over Silva. While most analysts and fighters are giving Silva the upper hand, Evans believes GSP could turn the tables against
Silva.
“Oh yeah. I definitely think he's got a shot against Anderson. One thing about Anderson is this right here, Anderson's a great fighter, I mean, the one thing with Anderson is he has a problem defending the takedown,” said Evans on The MMA Hour.
“And then, on the ground sometimes, he allows people to advance position way too much. You see Chael Sonnen, the second time he fought him he took him down, and before the round was over, he had him in the mount. You get a guy like Georges St. Pierre in
a position like that, Anderson may not make it to another round,” he added.
Evans believes GSP showed enough grappling skills against Condit to intimidate the middleweight champion. According to Evans, GSP is a great grappler and he knows how to take down his opponents, something Silva cannot defend.
GSP scored 7 takedowns against Condit, while the latter could not put ‘The Rush’ down even once. Considering such stats, Evans is correct when he says GSP is a master in grappling.
Even though Evans believes GSP is the perfect match for Silva, it should be noted here that ‘The Rush’ did show his weakness towards hard hitters. The left head kick he received from Condit kept him down for a while. Had the kick been any stronger, GSP would
have been knocked out. This is where Silva can take advantage of the welterweight champion. A stronger strike when the guards are down and GSP will be on mat for good.
