Rashad Evans turns down fight against Glover Teixeira – UFC News
Glover Teixeira would be disappointed to know that yet another fighter has declined a fight against him. Being one of the toughest light heavyweights around, Glover always faces rejection. This time, the rejection came from Rashad Evans, who is coming off
a huge loss against former friend and colleague Jon Jones, the current light heavyweight champion.
On September 29, 2012, Evans was talking about his plans on the UFC on Fuel TV 5 post-fight show.
“I don't know. I talked to Dana [White] early this week and we talked about maybe December,” said Evans. “But I'm thinking maybe January or February. I will fight anybody. I want to get a fight at light heavyweight. They offered me a fight, but it was against
Glover Teixeira and I only had three weeks to fight and I haven't been training. I was like, ‘no way, not with that notice in Brazil,’” he added.
Evans’ last fight was against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Evans, who trash-talked against Jones and promised fans that he would end Jones’ long reign as champion, fell to the champion. He was beaten brutally, and he suffered grave injuries.
As of now, Evans believes it is not the right time to fight a tough fighter like Glover Teixeira. It should be noted here that this is not the first time Evans has rejected a fight. He has been a pain for President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana
White right from the start.
According to some critics, the only reason why Evans holds 17 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie is his choice of fights. To the naysayers, Evans is not a start but a choosy fighter who has not faced any fierce competition yet.
On the other hand, even though Evans has been tough for White to handle, the President still believes the American mixed martial artist is full of potential. Probably, Evans will fight Glover later but for now he is no mood.
Glover does not have that many choices to opt for. If not Evans then he might get a title shot at Jones, for which he will have to work hard and influence White into one.
