Rashad Evans wants to fight Anderson Silva – UFC News
Rashad Evans’ manager has revealed that the former light heavyweight titlist might drop to 185-pounds and face the middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Evans, who has been out of sight since his loss to Jon Jones earlier this year in April, wants to make
a comeback soon.
Evans challenged Jon Jones for the light heavyweight championship at UFC 145, only to lose via unanimous decision. Since then, Evans has been working as a broadcaster for ‘UFC Tonight’. He has also been busy in assisting with setting up fights for UFC on
Fuel TV.
Currently, Evans is looking forward to getting back in action soon. Considering he has already fought most of the fighters at the light heavyweight division, it makes sense for him to shift to a lower division.
Glenn Robinson, Evans’ manager, revealed at Authentic Sports Management that if Anderson Silva agrees to fight Rashad Evans, the former light heavyweight champion will move down in weight.
“If the UFC offered him Anderson Silva at 185 right now today, he would go and fight Anderson Silva at 185. The UFC is not offering him Anderson Silva at 185 today, so that's not something that's going to happen. So that's all Rashad ever meant. His goal
is to stay 205 and to fight the best possible 205-pounder; he'd like to fight in December. That's his goal. Whoever is the best available. That's who we'll fight.”
It should be noted here that Anderson Silva has already ran out of options. He locked horns with ‘The American Gangster’ Chael Sonnen at UFC 148, defeating the challenger via TKO in the second round.
Other fighters such as Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann are already in line to face Silva. However, the champion’s camp believes all the aforementioned mixed martial artists are quite inexperienced compared to Silva and so a match would not
be exciting. Silva is currently looking forward to go head to head with Georges St-Pierre, as he is experienced and a legend much like Silva himself.
For now, there is no news from Silva’s camp regarding the challenge issued by Evans.
