Rashard Lewis decides to jump on the Miami Heat bandwagon – NBA News
Rashard Lewis and the Miami Heat have agreed on a contract that will see him playing for the Heat next season. Rashard's agent Tony Dutt has revealed that the player came to terms with the Heat on Tuesday, and is expected to sign
the contract on Wednesday after the moratorium is lifted.
Lewis becomes the second shooting option signed by the Heat in a week, after former Boston Celtics shooting guard Ray Allen was signed by Miami four days ago.
Lewis and Allen were both teammates with the Seattle SuperSonics from 2003 to 2007. They always had a relationship and will now look to take their shooting skills to Miami.
The Heat have added two great stars that will complete their roster for the next season. Allen and Lewis are bound to shine in the Heat line up as the ability of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to penetrate and attract the defence
will give both shooters open looks and good opportunities to score.
Allen leads the NBA all time list with 2718 three pointers made while Rashard Lewis ranks fifth among active players with 1690 makes. Both players are great shooting options, particularly from beyond the arc and will provide Miami
with the perimeter scoring they need to balance their offense and spread the floor.
Lewis will make the veteran’s minimum of $1.3 million with the Heat. He will be receiving another $13.7 million by the New Orleans Hornets after they bought out the final year of his 6 year contract worth $ 118 million.
Lewis is an exceptional talent who has been playing in the NBA for 14 years. He reached his peak with the Seattle SuperSonics where he averaged 20 plus points per game for three consecutive seasons. He played for the Washington
Wizards last season but only managed 28 games after struggling with knee problems.
Rashard averaged 7.8 points and 3.9 rebounds, a considerable drop for the former star. Washington decided not to play him for the final 33 games of the season due to the injury issues.
Still, Lewis received interest from a number of teams in free agency, including the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. However, he eventually decided to go to Miami as he felt the Heat were a better fit for him.
