The versatile forward is ready to embrace a lesser role in order to win a championship with Miami.
There is no doubt that Rashard Lewis one of the prolific long range shooters to ever play in the NBA – 4th on all-time list - and his addition to the Miami Heat has only made the defending champions an even stronger
unit.
However, shooting has not been the problem in his recent career. Rather it has been the nagging knee injuries which have derailed a successful career. Lewis struggled to remain fit with the Wizards last season and was eventually
let go at the first chance this summer. The player is now eager to have a fresh start with Miami.
The way he took to court with the Heat in his first practice, the veteran certainly looks to be ready. Lewis participated in every drill and even had the time to go through his own shooting work out during which he connected on
11 triples in a row. Lewis who has not been able to remain fully fit in the past two seasons and being able to fatigue himself out in practice definitely shows the progress he has made.
"I was worried how I would feel the next day after a hard workout, and I've been going for three days straight and no pain at all," said Lewis
On the other hands, this certainly comes as a good sign for Miami who acquire Lewis on a veteran’s minimum for the next two seasons. But giving up money in order to win a championship seems to a trend around the Heat roster as
Lewis joined the lists of veterans who are part of the roster.
Being in Miami, might be a very good thing for Lewis. The side already has a bevy of quality sharp shooter including Ray Allen, the best three pointer shooter of all time. This means that Lewis will not be needed for major minutes
and he can ease into his groove. The forward realizes that fact and is not at all bothered;
"When you have younger guys like LeBron James or Dwyane Wade that are the stars on the team, you got to sacrifice. If you don't sacrifice, you might find yourself at home, watching them on TV, or not even in the league.
"So it's sacrifice time for me."
