Rashard Lewis will sacrifice to get a fair deal in the new CBA: NBA Update
According to some reports, the National Basketball Association is considering to propose an Amnesty Clause in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. This provision will allow NBA teams an exception to relinquish a player, leaving
out any additional luxury tax on their contracts. If approved, this will also help the teams to waive overpaid players and control the increasing trend of heavy contracts.
If such provision takes place, Washington Wizards veteran small forward Rashard Lewis will be the first player on the move who is considered as the most overpaid player in the league.
The 32-year-old Lewis is guaranteed to take home 32 million dollars out of 43 million that he is slated to make for the next two seasons. In the next season, Rashard Lewis will be the second-highest paid NBA player behind Los Angeles
Lakers legendary shooting guard Kobe Bryant.
Even if the Amnesty clause does not take place, Lewis has already pledged to sit out in the next season and sacrifice his complete salary in order to sign a fair contract. However, at the same time, Rashard Lewis also stated that
it’s not his fault that he signed a massive deal as he was never a part of the negotiation. The blame for the situation entirely lies on NBA owner and general managers who make erroneous decision at the time of finalizing the contracts with a coveted player.
“I thought my agent did a good job of negotiating my contract, and at the time I was coming out of Seattle, averaging 23 points, playing well. It was perfect timing for me. At the same time, I understand the owners don't want to
overpay players, but you've got to do better negotiating. Try your best to save money." Rashard said.
The NBA All-Star Rashard Lewis posted the lowest performance of his career in the last seasons since earning the reputation of a prolific scorer during the third year after being drafted by the Seattle Supersonics. Lewis averaged
11.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in the Washington Wizard’s uniform, producing nothing against the huge contract he signed with the Wizards during the 2010-2011 season.
Apart from an aging body, another major concern which hampered Lewis to provide his best on the court in recent years was an injured right knee. In order to recover his strength, Rashard had a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment
in March and the doctors stated that the recovery process will take time.
“It’s a slow process. It most definitely did help. I won’t say it worked 100 percent, because we did a million different things trying to find out the problem and a cure for it. The PRP is something that helps, but it doesn’t happen
overnight. Lewis said.
The NBA lockout is ultimately helping Lewis as he is getting ample time to give rest to his knee.
