New York Knicks have reportedly put the decision on Rasheed Wallace’s shoulder as to whether he wants to come out of retirement.
There had been reports that former NBA Champion Rasheed Wallace might be coming out of retirement to play for the New York Knicks. The former Piston tried out for the team on Saturday; however the possibilities of that happening
seemed too farfetched because if the Knicks do go ahead, they would be interested in a player who retired two seasons back mainly because he had lost the motivation to play.
However, based on the recent comments given by Wallace’s agent Marc Berman to the New York Post, a Wallace return might be inevitable.
“The Knicks are willing to take a gamble on 6-foot-11 power forward Rasheed Wallace, who retired two seasons ago after finishing a disappointing one-year stint as a Celtic.”
“But Wallace, who worked out with Knicks players Saturday at their training facility, still has not decided whether he is willing to dedicate himself to getting himself back in NBA shape at age 38. Clearly, he’s nowhere close now.”
This is certainly a unique kind of offer and we all have to wait to find out what led the Knicks to putting the gauntlet on Wallace’s table.
What is clear though is that Wallace, who retired back in 2010 after a dismal season with the Boston Celtics one that was capped off by a Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, seems to have found a motivation to return. That is
astonishing because Wallace’s retirement had come after being directly influenced by his lack of interest in conditioning and excessive travelling.
So why are the Knicks willing to take the gamble with the, 38 year old, who had lost all interest to play? Well, one thing that does pop into mind that despite his lack of desire, Wallace brings along the much needed experience
required in the Knicks roster.
They might have star players like Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire leading the charge but having a veteran presence like Wallace on the bench is going to be of great help if they are to make significant progress in the next
season.
