Rashid Khan grabs maiden title at Surya Nepal Masters – Indian Golf Tour
Young Rashid Khan maintained his lead on the final day of the Surya Nepal Masters and won his maiden title at the par-72, Gokarna Golf Resort in Nepal.
Khan played well during all the four rounds by managing under par scores throughout the event. This was a great victory for him as he won by a good margin of seven shots over his nearest opponent. The teenager carded a final round of six-under par, 66. His
score card showed six birdies and no bogey for the day.
While going in the final round as the leader, certainly there is a bit of pressure. As Khan played, it looked like he has been in this situation before. He made three birdies on front-nine and three on back-nine. Once again, it was his putter which supported
him during his final round. Having a fantastic score in the final round, he was overwhelmed with his performance.
The victory gave him a lot of confidence. He only made 26 putts as his approach shots were simply amazing on a few holes. He did not look under any kind of pressure as the leader at any stage. The gallery was amazed to see the youngster lead the way in a
field where all the experienced players were present.
Khan, who recently turned his status to a professional, was happy with his four-day performance. He dominated the championship on all the four days and never slipped on the leader board. His father and coach praised his performance. All the hard work he
did on the practice range certainly showed results in this championship.
Rashid had a four-day aggregate score of 20-under par, 268.
Another youngster from Sri Lanka, Mithun Perera came second. He managed to card a round of one-under par, 71 but Khan was too good on the final day. Perera had five birdies and four bogeys on his score card. He did not look much comfortable on the final
day as was looking under a bit of pressure. His swing was also not in complete momentum on the day.
Mithun played some promising golf during all the four days. He finished with a four-day score of 13-under par, 275 and was seven shots behind the champion.
The local lad Shiva Ram Shrestha had to be content with the third spot. He managed a composed round of two-under par, 70. Shrestha had five birdies and three bogeys on his score card and his four day score was 12-under par, 276.
