Rashid Latif advises http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 to play more domestic cricket – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Ali-Khan-c89356 Afridi’s recent performances in international cricket and advised the all-rounder to play more domestic matches in order to regain his form.
Afridi, who burst into the scene of the international sport in 1996, smashing the fastest hundred in the history of the One Day Internationals (ODIs), has been Pakistan’s main bowler in the limited-over formats in recent years.
His performance in 2012 has been quite poor though, as the former skipper scored merely 182 runs in 16 matches and claimed only 15 wickets at an unhealthy average of 43.13 runs per scalp.
Boom Boom failed to make an impression in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s ODI squad.
The former wicketkeeper/batsman feels that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 is still fit enough to deliver the goods at the highest stage of the game but the hard-hitting batsman does not give himself enough time to establish his innings.
“I have not seen a problem with Afridi’s fitness in the past year. His batting strike rate was also impressive but the fact of the matter is that he spent very little time at the wicket for his runs. Every batsman needs to give himself time to regain the lost touch and this is where Afridi lacked in the recent past,” Latif said.
Afridi has so far represented his country in 349 ODIs, 27 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals, having picked up more than 450 victims at the global stage.
Rashid, who is considered to be one of the best wicketkeepers produced by Pakistan, expressed that every player goes through lean periods and the only way to come out of it is to play more first-class matches.
The former captain added, “Younis, Misbah, Hafeez and others have been through bad patches, however, they overcame the hindrance by scoring heavily in the domestic events by spending time in the middle. Afridi should do the same, I feel.”
Afridi represents Habib Bank Limited (HBL) and Karachi at the national level.
