Rashid Latif feels feels bad for the suspended trio
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 feels that the delay in the ultimate decision regarding the fate of the spot-fixing tainted three Pakistani players Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif is unjustified.
Latif who himself blew the whistle on match-fixing when he was playing for the national team said, “The ICC has delayed things and prolonged the issue causing lot of mental torture to these players and the Pakistani people. Perhaps they don't realise the
sort of tension and pressure the players go through when confronted with such a situation."
The former player said that if the International Cricket Council (ICC) had enough evidence against the players then why has it taken so long to prosecute them, the charges should have been levelled against the players and then they should have slapped with
penalties. Latif said that the ICC has already dragged the whole situation for almost four months. This has added to the ordeal of the players. The ICC could have saved the players from this mental trauma by resolving this matter earlier. The players and the
country shouldn’t have gone through such a long period of uncertainty.
Latif also criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not putting enough pressure on the ICC to resolve the matter sooner. Latif believed that the PCB could have played a more proactive role in this fiasco so that the players could have been either
acquitted or punished accordingly.
The former captain was totally confused as to why the experienced players such as Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 and Rana Naved were out of the team. He said that if the rumours are true that the ICC has not cleared these players then the governing
body should either come up with charges against these players or simply clear them. This is unjustified and demoralizing to suspect the players of any wrongdoing without any proof.
He said, “I don't get it if the ICC and PCB believe these players are guilty of corruption then why are they even playing domestic cricket. But what is unfair is to cast a question mark on their integrity without having any evidence to show. The PCB must
decide quickly if they are not guilty of wrong doing they should be in the World Cup team."
Under such uncertain and time testing circumstances, it will be very hard for the Pakistani players to focus on the World Cup which will surely diminish their chances of giving a commendable performance in the World clash.
