Former Pakistan wicket-keeper and captain Rashid Latif has resigned from the role of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s wicket-keeping coach after the board issued him a show-cause notice. The notice was issued by the PCB for speaking against the cricket board and the chairman of the PCB.
In a recent television show, Latif had been critical about the way in which the recent spot-fixing scandal had been handled by the PCB. He had said that the PCB chief should have immediately suspended the three cricketers in question, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt even before the ICC did.
Latif released a press statement in which he said that he had sent his explanation to the cricket board in a reply to the notice. He also said, “I would like to make it clear here that while it is an honour to serve Pakistan cricket in any position I can't remain quiet on a key cricket issue that could determine the future of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket,”
He added that he had nothing personal against anyone, but as a former cricketer, he was expected to speak the truth without any bias, and that is all that he had done.
Latif has been up in arms over the recent allegations of match-fixing against the Pakistani cricketers. He had also questioned the player agent, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed for his motives.
Earlier, it was Latif who had blown the lid of the match-fixing scandal that had taken place in cricket in the 1990s. He had accused several Pakistani cricketers of taking money and fixing games, and that had led to the life bans for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salim-c88143 Malik and Ata-ur-Rehman, two of the Pakistani cricketers. Several other cricketers had been fined.
Latif added that he had had a good time as the wicket-keeping coach, but he had other duties as a former Pakistani player.
Latif was also working with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 national team recently as the batting coach, but he had resigned from there as well. He had cited the reasons as “irreconcilable differences”. However, after the resignation from this post as the PCB’s wicket-keeping coach, he may resume duties with the Afghanistan national team.
Latif has had a reputation for being a dogged critic of corruption in critic.
