Paying tribute to the outgoing South African wicketkeeper/batsman, Mark Boucher, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084, rated him amongst the top five glovemen of the history of the game and feels that the Proteas will miss his services in future.
The 35-year-old met an unfortunate accident earlier this month when a dislodged bail struck his eye during a practice match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843. The injury turned out to be an extremely severe one, consequently ending an illustrious career.
Interestingly, Boucher had 999 dismissals in international cricket and just one more victim would have made him the first player in the history of the game to complete a thousand scalps.
While speaking to Pakpassion, Latif, who himself is considered to be one of the finest wicketkeepers of the modern-era, was all praise for the great South African and expressed that Boucher is up there with the very best.
The selectors have called up http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 tour but the former Pakistan captain believes that Boucher is not replaceable.
Rashid said, “Boucher has taken the right decision at the right time. He was an excellent wicket-keeper batsman – Infact, I would rate him amongst the top 5 wicket-keepers in the history of cricket. He was a great asset for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and it will be difficult
to find his replacement.”
The Karachi-born former player further added that the injured keeper could have represented his country for another couple of years but the terrible blow forced him to call it a day from the global arena.
Rashid believes that apart from being one of the safest glovemen of the game’s history, Boucher was immensely valuable with the bat, having scored five Test centuries and 35 fifties.
However, Rashid agrees that every great player has to go one day.
“Although his decision to retire has been driven by the seriousness of the injury, it is also true that great players also know when its time to retire,” the former captain mentioned. “This is a big decision for Boucher and will have a great impact on the
fortunes of the South African team.”
