The whistle blower in a match and spot fixing scandal, former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 wicket keeper, and, batsman, Rashid Latif has resigned from the position of wicket keeping coach for Pakistan Cricket Board. His resignation came after he was served a notice for his candid comments during an interview based around the match fixing scandal that was televised LIVE on DAWN NEWS TV around the world.
The controversial and outspoken wicket keeper, who was hailed as the best Pakistani stumper ever made the announcement via a press release, the following is the contents of the statement.
“I have taken the decision to resign after being issued a notice by the board for having given statements on a television talk show on the spot fixing issue.
I have sent my explanation to the board with reference to the notice but I would like to make it clear here that while it is an honour to serve Pakistan cricket in any position I can’t remain quiet on a key cricket issue that could determine the future of Pakistan cricket.
As a former player and captain, people look up to me and expect me to speak honestly and without bias and that I have done without meaning anything personal against anyone.
I have enjoyed working as wicket keeping coach under the supervision of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 as Chairman of the board but as a former captain, I have other responsibilities as well to Pakistan cricket which has given me a lot.
In his interview that made waves around the world, Rashid claimed that match and spot fixing was an international menace and not associated with Pakistan cricket alone. The former Test captain, who quit the game rather ignominiously after being handed a five match ban for claiming an illegitimate catch during a test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Multan-c819, added that the International Cricket Council was deliberately encouraging spot fixing in the game as it ensured a huge revenue.
His shocking claims were initially rubbished by the establishment yet it seems that the governing body of the game might have compelled PCB to send a notice to the Karachi born player, who as usual did not take a backward stance and quit his post with the PCB.
Barely a month ago, he relinquished the post of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745’s head coach citing intervention from the cricketing authorities in selection matters as the reason for his decision.
Interestingly, the Anti Corruption and Security Unit of ICC did not take the recommendations of Rashid seriously despite the fact that he time and again maintained that spot and match fixing was rife in international cricket and submitted a detailed report many years ago.
This led to the belief that the governing body was perhaps fanning the fire and playing a part in the spread of the evil that raised its ugly head once again when three Pakistani players were allegedly caught spot fixing the fourth and final Test against England at Lords last month.
During the interview he vowed to launch a full-fledged battle against the menace adding that he knew that the main source of the problem was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 that is considered the headquarters of betting.
His latest skirmish with the authorities once again highlights that there is indeed something fishy and that the cricketing World is perhaps not willing to include upright men like Rashid in their midst as it might hamper their nefarious designs.
One hopes that the Pakistani government, as well http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AS-Scotland-c46175 Yard, probing the spot fixing allegation on Pakistani players, take Rashid on board and get to the root of the problem that continues to plague cricket since the last two decades.
