Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has expressed his willingness to assemble a World XI to come play in Pakistan, after the PCB claimed they would look into the prospect if the proposed series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 did not materialize.
“If the PCB is willing to take care of the costs involved, I am ready to work on this project,” Latif said. “I am confident that a World XI made up of players from different countries can be convinced to come to Pakistan.”
The 43-year-old went on to add that owing to his association with the Lashings club in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. He also pointed out that there were several retired cricketers
who were still in form and willing to play.
“I had floated this idea of a World XI back in January. The board even called me once to inquire about it but then I think they got busy and focused on inviting Bangladesh to Pakistan,” he said.
The Men In Green have not hosted a series on home soil since the 2009 terrorist attacks on the visiting Sri Lankan team in Lahore, during which six Pakistani policemen and a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 driver were killed. Owing to the dubious security arrangements, Pakistan has
been undergoing an international cricket drought.
The current PCB chief, Zaka Ashraf, who took over for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 last year in October, has expressed an interest in the revival of international cricket, and after talks with the BCCI for a bilateral series failed, the board has been negotiating the prospect
of hosting Bangladesh for a series in Pakistan.
While the BCB sent a delegation which approved the security arrangements in Pakistan, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 refused to send their match officials to the country, despite having offered to grant the series official endorsement. This led to the BCB expressing hesitation
about the proposed series, throwing it into doubt.
The PCB has stated that if talks with Bangladesh come to nothing, they will contemplate hosting a World XI to play in Pakistan, and in this regard, have agreed to back Latif in his attempts.
“If Rashid Latif wants to bring a World XI to Pakistan, we would be glad to support him in doing this,” Zaka Ashraf said.
