Rashid Sidek is determined to achieve the objective of Misbun Sidek: Badminton News
The Malaysian Rashid Sidek, the chief coach of Men’s Singles, is determined to achieve the objective of his elder brother and former National coach, Misbun Sidek. The former coach has turned down the offer which was presented by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), in which he was assigned to train the back-up shuttlers.
Among the five Sidek's brothers, Rashid is the youngest of all. Jalani Sidek, Razif Sidek and Rahman Sidek are working on the lower level to groom the junior shuttlers. Rashid is currently working with the world number one, Lee Chong Wei, and is determined to produce more world class shuttlers in Malaysia.
Chong Wei is working under the direct supervision of Teh Seu Bock, whereas Liew Daren, Chong Wei Feng, Tan Chun Seang and Chan Kwong Beng are playing under the patronage of Rashid, who is willing to make these players quite competent at an international level.
Rashid will continue his services to look after the men’s singles squad. The family has been involved in Badminton for many years. But at the moment, Rashid is the only person working directly with BAM. He is determined to keep the name of his family alive in this field.
While talking about the current training and coaching plans, Rashid said, “There is a slight improvement in the standard of the current elite players although Daren and Chun Seang were sent packing in the early stages of the ongoing India Open. I am confident we can narrow the gap and find new stars.”
Misbun Sidek resigned from his services as the National coach for singles, on December 31, 2010. At the time of resignation, he was the coach of Chong Wei, who became the world number one under the supervision of Misbun. However, Rashid took over the charge and worked hard on Chong Wei to make him focused on the major events.
Under the supervision of Rashid and Seu Bock, the world number one has won three major titles in the opening three months of 2011 and remains focused to continue his winning streak in the upcoming event of 2011 World Badminton Championship.
