Rashid Sidek shows intentions to bring Joo Ven in back-up squad – Badminton News
Singles head coach of Malaysia Rashid Sidek is amazed by young Soong Joo Ven’s talent and he showed intentions to give him an opportunity to train with national campaigners in central training camps.
Joo Ven, who is in transition period from junior to senior level, grabbed all the attention by powering his way to the final round of 2012 Asian Junior Championships.
The 17-year-old shuttler, who was underdog earlier in the tournament, lost to Kento Momota of Japan but he registered his presence with a staggering performance.
Now, Rashid Sidek believes that the Malaysian lad can be the next badminton star and suggested to invite him in central training camp.
He thinks that these practice sessions will really help Joo Ven to elevate his craft in minimum time.
Rashid said, “If the management allows, we don’t mind taking him in earlier – just to get some quality training with the back-up players. It will help him to improve faster.”
At the moment, Joo Ven is under the supervision of national junior chief coach Zhao Kejian and he has showed remarkable progress in previous couple of months.
In recently concluded Asian meet, he was not expected to be in the top four contenders but he proved all the pundits wrong by making it to the title match of the Championships.
He earned great deal of admiration for his fighting spirit before losing to higher ranked Kento Momota with 13-21 and 20-22 score.
The badminton guru Rashid Sidek commended youngster’s effort in that prestigious event and declared that if Joo Ven continues with same dedication then far better positions will be waiting for him in the arena.
He said, “I’ve seen Joo Ven play and he certainly has talent. The transition period from the junior to the senior ranks is crucial. I hope Joo Ven will continue to be committed. If he does, he can go far.”
Moreover, Rashid also gave the youngster an attention call by advising him to focus on World Junior Championships, set to be held this year in Japan.
For Now, Joo Ven is scheduled to participate in an individual badminton event in 2012 Malaysia Games.
