Rashid believes Chong Wei will rise and shine in 2012 London Olympics – Badminton News
The badminton king Lee Chong Wei has been battling with injuries for last couple of month but Singles chief coach of Malaysia Rashid Sidek still believes that the maestro will lock the honour in London Olympics, starting from July 27, 2012.
World Number two shuttler is the nation’s biggest hope for a gold medal and he is sweating hard in the nets to avoid being bleeding chips in the mega event.
At the moment, he is swinging his arms in central training camp and Rashid Sidek looked content over his progress during these practice sessions.
The coach briefed that Chong Wei has started his normal training and he is making every effort to get in proper shape and rhythm.
Rashid also stated that the Malaysian ace is in high spirits to make the best out of this last week before the London Games. He also declared that Chong Wei has fair chance to pocket his first Olympic medal.
He said, "Chong Wei has been progressing well and the training in Bath has been good and he is totally focused on his preparations. In his current condition, his chances of a medal remain high."
However, the badminton guru admitted that his shuttler is not in prime touch as eight-week absence from court will affect his performance but in same breath he also claimed that Chong Wei is capable of securing top spot on the victory stand.
He said, "It could be tough for him to go for gold but he must not give up at any stage. As long as he remains positive and believes he can win a medal, he can keep on fighting."
The 29-year-old Men’s Singles expert will be looking to unseat Chinese trio Lin Dan, Chen Long and Chen Jin in this race to glory but Rashid Sidek is not ready to ignore danger men like Taufik Hidayat and Simon Santoso.
He hoped that Chong Wei will utilise all his experience and brilliance to exceed all the world beaters.
He said, "There are also players like Taufik, Boonsak, Simon and Wan Ho who will be trying to exploit his weaknesses but Chong Wei has the experience to overcome them."
Moreover, the badminton guru also cherished his fond memories of 1996 Atlanta Olympics when he fetched a bronze medal despite of an injury. He advised his players to prepare for the worst and then hope for the best in coming edition of the mega event.
