Rat Weaning.?

I am going to wean my baby rats from the mother hopefully as soon as they open their eyes, as she needs treatment that she cannot under-go while she has the babies, becaus eshe is still lactating.

To make the weaning proccess as easy, fast, and comfortable for the babies, mummy rattie, and me also, I'm going onto soy milk, creamed foods like porridge and puree, and also wholegrain rice pudding and oatmeal. I wondered, are Heinz baby foods ok for rats to eat? They have some great healthy choices so the rats will be fit and healthy, and also happy and not bored with their food. And also, can adult rats eat honey when they are lactating? And what about semi-skimmed milk? Thanks for any answers.

  1. baby food is fine

  2. the baby food is fine for them, I fed baby food to babies, young, full grown, and sick rats.....easy simple delicious.   I would tend to stay away from too much dairy tho, like in many animals dairy often irritates the stomach and causes runny bowel movements.  A little bit is good but don't make it a main staple in their diet.

I would remove them from their mother at 4-5 weeks, no earlier than 4 no later than 6......6 weeks is when you should remove all female and males from eachother because yes they can get pregnant that young and it isn't good for them.

good luck with your little ones
