Any ideas on how to make baby tailless rats with a tailless mum and a tailed dad (would it work?)

You don't sound ready to be breeding anything let alone something as risky as tailless. Please rethink it.

Apparently the tailless rats are actually a birth defect so I would advise reading this website:

its about breeding tailless females with a few cautions about it !

He would need to carry it as well.

Unless you know their full pedigrees, you should rethink this.  The tailless gene often carries some pretty nasty defects as well.  Even with a clean pedigree background, there's still the risk something could pop up.

female tailless can die in child birth so unless you want to kill her i wouldn't advise it
