  1. shes getting old, death is near............sorry

  2. If your rat isn't more than two or three years old, then it could just be sick.  In which case, a shot or so of steroids for your rat will cure a lot of things.

If her rat has too much protein in it's diet or it's stressed, this could also contribute to the problem.

I recommend google a bit.  Simply type in "rat hair loss" and you'll come up with a bunch of things, good and bad.

As for the blindness, she might not be blind, but have fluid in her ear.  Again, steroids help clear up an ear infection which can be given by a vet.  If treated soon enough, then they can recover and go back to normal.

Again, googling it can give you more information.  The links above were simply things I found while googling for some help for you.

I strongly suggest you google "Rat ear infection".  It may be that.  I've researched around a bit before to help someone and I found a number of different things can happen to a rat because of an ear infection.  If you can't find it there, trying "rat health" could bring up a helpful topic.

  3. Take her to the vet; only they will know for sure.

  4. Take your rat to the vet immediately! A vet can tell you what is happening. Just because rats are inexpensive to obtain does not mean that they do not need proper veterinary care just like a dog or cat.

Rats do not go downhill this quickly because of age. I am perplexed by the responses diagnosing her as old without knowing her age. Advising inaction will likely result in the rat's death...

  5. Sounds like she is getting old. The end sounds like it might be near. Just in case it's treatable, call your vet. Unfortunatly, I think she is living her last days. Make her as comfy as possible, and let her now that she's loved.

    God bless.
